A New Cameroon Is on the Horizon: 8 Churches Officially Recognized by the President of the Republic
Yaoundé, January 23, 2026 – A historic turning point for the Church in Cameroon
A new Cameroon is emerging.
In a powerful and highly symbolic act, His Excellency Paul BIYA, President of the Republic of Cameroon, signed eight presidential decrees granting official recognition to eight Revivalist and Pentecostal churches, thereby allowing them to legally carry out their activities throughout the entire country.
This decision marks a historic first in Cameroon and represents a major step forward in the institutional recognition of revivalist churches, which have long been engaged in evangelism, prayer, and providing spiritual and social support to the people.
The 8 Officially Recognized Churches
The churches covered by these presidential decrees are:
1. International Christian Missionary Community
2. The Redeemed Christian Church of God
3. Reformed Overcomers Chapel
4. Russian Orthodox Church of Cameroon
5. Chapel of the Glory of Christ
6. Christian Mission of Hope – House of Prayer
7. Free Evangelical Church of Cameroon
8. Winners Chapel International
Other churches are also in the process of being registered and undergoing administrative processing, signaling a positive and inclusive trend in the regulation of religious affairs in Cameroon.
Joy, gratitude, and thanksgiving
The announcement of these approvals sparked immense joy among the leaders of these churches as well as among the faithful. Everywhere, prayers of thanksgiving, songs of praise, and expressions of gratitude were offered to celebrate this decision, which several religious leaders described as a divine answer after many long years of waiting.
For many, this official recognition is seen as a prophetic sign, confirming that Cameroon remains a land of hope, faith, and peace, where freedom of worship is respected and strengthened.
A Major Milestone for Religious Freedom
In accordance with Law No. 90/053 of December 19, 1990, on freedom of association, these decrees strengthen the legal framework within which churches can now operate, build, educate, evangelize, and contribute to the moral and social development of the nation.
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12)
Cameroon is thus entering a new era, in which the Church is called upon more than ever to fulfill its spiritual, social, and moral role in the service of the nation.
